On Day One, which is a public dialogue, we will bring leaders from civil society, media, policy and business, we will assess the status of the transition to green economies across the world. We will test the green economy pitch to ‘People and Power’ and examine the current progress towards financial system reform. Day Two is a GEC strategy meeting for members and invited partners only.
Day One overview: To stimulate our discussions, we will hear about the acceleration of green economy national plans from Fulai Sheng (Head of the Research and Partnerships Unit of UNEP); we will learn about the current politics of climate change from Sir David King (Special Representative for Climate Change, UK Foreign Office) and hear more about the economics of transformation from Sarah Chapman (Chief of Staff, New Climate Economy Commission) and the role of civil society action from Melissa Leach (Director, Institute of Development Studies).
Together, we will tackle the question of how to take the green economy into the mainstream with a panel of media and political commentators including Joan Walley (MP, Stoke on Trent North), Ed Conway (Sky News, Economics Editor) and Hunter Lovins (President, Natural Capital Solutions) chaired by Richard Black (ex-BBC Environment Correspondent). In the afternoon, we will have sessions on financial system change chaired by Richard Spencer (Head of Sustainability, ICAEW), with insights from Simon Zadek (UNEP finance inquiry), and a panel of finance, private sector and civil society commentators.
Day Two overview: The GEC Strategy Day will provide an opportunity for members and invited partners to gather, share updates and plan for the coming year. Specifically, we will be reflecting on the status of the transition and considering our strategic priorities as we move forward. We will be reviewing progress on our five themes of change and sharing updates across all our GEC projects. By the end of the day we will generate an action plan for the coming year.
