The GEC is pleased to begin 2017 by welcoming The Equality Trust as the coalition's newest member.
The Equality Trust is a campaigning organisation founded in 2009 by Bill Kerry, Richard G. Wilkinson and Kate Pickett after the publication of Wikinson and Pickett's book The Spirit Level: Why More Equal Societies Almost Always Do Better (2009). The book highlights the "pernicious effects that inequality has on societies: eroding trust, increasing anxiety and illness, (and) encouraging excessive consumption".
The Equality Trust is dedicated to reducing income inequality and works through its local groups across the UK and a network of international equality groups.
We are delighted to join the GEC and support its pioneering work in mapping out the essential journey we all have to make towards a green economy. The Equality Trust has always worked to increase understanding around the links between greater equality and greater sustainability and we look forward to learning from our partner organisations in the GEC as well as contributing our evidence and knowledge around the benefits of more equal societies. Dr. Wanda Wyporska, Executive Director, The Equality Trust
Climate concerns are stimulating an economic transformation. We would be morally bankrupt if we fail to take this opportunity to ensure this new economy works for everyone. We are delighted to welcome The Equality Trust to our coalition. Our Green Must be Fair programme just got a whole lot stronger. Oliver Greenfield, Convenor, GEC
